Our Story

STEVE'S VERSION: I had been working for a while at my first PT job before I had met Katherine. When my boss informed me that we were hiring a new therapist, he jokingly warned me that I couldn’t fall in love with her. I internally rolled my eyes and thought there would be no way. I had earlier come to my own conclusion that I could never date another therapist. A new PT was going to be no big deal. Coworkers come and go. How could this one be any different? It's always exciting to have a new coworker in a small company, but I had no way of knowing just how much more she would become for me.

She started with the company and things just clicked. She was both cute and intelligent; and I was in trouble. One day, I smoothly got her number asking if she would need help moving into her new apartment. Had she known this was my not-so-sly attempt at getting a chance to bug her to hangout, who knows where we would be. It was too late though. I had her number. It wasn’t long before we went on our first date and grabbed sushi after work one day. The rest is history!

KATHERINE'S VERSION: I met Steve after moving to Santa Barbara in 2020 and started work at the same physical therapy clinic as Steve. Steve surprised me with his midwest charm by extending an offer to help me move into my apartment only a few days after meeting. I didn't take him up on it, as I didn't want to subject him to the craziness and stress of moving (PIVOT!!), but his kindness and generosity stuck with me. A few weeks later, this blue-eyed cutie invited me to his house's fish fry to meet his roommates and friends. I was stoked! He had such a close-knit and fun-loving group of friends that I enjoyed the afternoon tremendously. We went on our first date for sushi, testing the waters to see how two coworkers could make it work. We though we kept things quiet around work, though turns out our boss knew months before we told him! After our first date, most of our "dates" were adventures around Santa Barbara and California- hiking, backpacking, climbing and surfing. We continue to share our passion for the outdoors and together love exploring what Santa Barbara has to offer!

TIDBITS AND FUN:

Who's going to take out the trash?
Steve: "Katherine."
Katherine: "Steve."

What was your most memorable date?
Steve: Going to the schoolhouse in the Los Padres forest for a backpacking trip. It was our first backpacking trip with just the two of us and we had a good time exploring and fighting the heat. There were times of uncertainty with fearless mules and turkeys, but we managed to get through it. There were also moments of intense quietness. We often both had minimal energy for thinking of anything other than getting to the car and picking up some food on the way home."
Katherine: "How can I not mention the date Steve proposed to me?! We hiked from early morning to afternoon past snow topped trees and a series of lakes within the Desolation Wilderness, near Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. Steve popped the question while we rested for lunch at a lake. We celebrated with a bottle of bubbly and staggered our way home for the last 4 miles!"

What's your favorite activity together?
Climbing rocks!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?
TBD- potential options include: Japan, Argentina, Peru, or a series of national parks in the US.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
It's hard to pick just one. Some of our favorites have been: Costa Rica, Tahoe, Alabama Hills, Sedona and random car rides.

We’re on the same page about:
Getting a good night's sleep- 9 hours minimum :)

A life goal of ours:
Climbing tall peaks, having a family, and continuing to enjoy our time living in Santa Barbara.

The most spontaneous thing we’ve done
We're both planners, and we are laughing at ourselves for not being able to think of anything spontaneous. Maybe ice cream? Double scoop with waffle cone?

The dorkiest thing about us is
Steve: "Katherine's squatty potty, her excitement for gummies, and her love for sci fi/fantasy books."
Katherine: "Steve's fanny pack, bright orange crocs that are two sizes too big, and his passion for bird watching."

A cause we care about:
Improving physical and mental wellbeing of our community.
Reducing our impact on our environment and protecting the outdoors.

We are regulars at:
SB Rock Gym, Don Q's pool hall, Cuernavacas Tacqueria.

We take pride in:
